An amazing set of pyrotechnics lit up the Tahoe sky with oohs and ahs from the thousands on hand. The South Lake streets were swarmed by hordes of people for the Independence Day celebrations.
And while the fireworks were great, the real party was taking place with six sets of Southern Rock & Roll over three nights as Widespread Panic took the stage for their now annual appearance at MontBleu Casino (formerly Caesar’s).
Diehard Panic fans waited months for this much-anticipated three-night sold-old run brought to Tahoe by Renegade Productions.
“This is the perfect way to celebrate the 4th of July,” said Rusty Reames of Tahoe City. “For me, this is the epitome of independence.”
The packed showroom at MontBleu danced their heads off night after night as many true fans showed up for three nights straight. One couldn’t help but feel the energy as the crowd sang along with favorites such as “Stop-Go,” “Bear’s Gone Fishin’” and “Goin’ Out West” on the first night; “Christmas Katie” (which boats the line “...Even on the 4th of July”), “Fishwater,” “Tall Boy” and “Coconut” the second night; and “Ribs And Whiskey,” “Big Wooly Mammoth” and “Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys” on night three.
Panic frontman John Bell serenaded the audience with his raspy southern voice and Dave Schools laid down the steady bassline as Panic was joined by their good friends John Keane on guitar/pedal steel and Sam Holt on guitar.
Beer and Whiskey were consumed in proper Independence Day fashion and the party continued into the wee hours of each night. All in all, Widespread Panic in beautiful South Lake Tahoe was the icing on a tasty Fourth of July ice cream cake.
